Introductions

If you’re like me and have never quite been able to walk away from your pop-punk roots, allow me to introduce you to one of your new favorite locals in MAKESHIFT. Andrew Musalo (guitar/vocals), Dan Burke (bass/ vocals), Austin Barrow (lead guitar), and Ethan Kreidemaker (drums) first started the band as high-schoolers in 2012. The combination of compelling, lively, and relatable lyrics with quick tempos makes for a fresh take on the feelings we got from stuff like early-2000s Yellowcard. The band cranked out two EPs, a full-length album, and a good bit of touring in five years before taking a hiatus. Since coming out of hibernation in 2018 with the release of Reflection, MAKESHIFT has been busy writing new material for their next release and will be recording soon!

The band shared that the song “Reflection” means quite a lot to them. They describe it as the “most meaningful song” written during their break, when each of the members was juggling a lot of heaviness. Their first attempt at tackling a song about loss and grief truly hit home for me, especially after losing my grandmother two weeks prior to hearing it for the first time.

Tours & Shows

Since hitting the road for the first time around 2014, MAKESHIFT has lapped the East and Northeast a few times and even made it out to the midwest in April of 2019. They’ve also played all over Long Island, even sharing the stage with hometown heroes Patent Pending. At one point the crew found itself stuck in Chicago due to some shows dropping during a trek through the Midwest. Long Island natives The Movielife heard they were left high and dry, so they threw MAKESHIFT on their Chicago tour date on the morning of. It’s always good to see members of the community taking care of each other, especially when they’re far from home!
