Introductions

Josh Yavneh has been captivated by music for his entire life. He comes from a musical family that put a bass guitar in his hands by 13 years old—a cherished bar mitzvah gift. Inspired by heartland rockers, Josh’s music developed on a classic rock foundation. His laid back, gravelly delivery and bright, twangy guitar are hallmarks of his signature sound.

Josh was playing in bands and writing his own music by the end of high school, though it wouldn’t be until his early twenties that he was confident taking lead on the mic. After compiling a collection of his original songs including “Trampoline”, Josh stepped back from the band he was with to pursue his own direction.

Sometimes solo and sometimes accompanied by the band, the songwriter is driven to creating and performing music. “I just want these songs heard. I believe in them. I know how powerful music can be and how it can literally save your life.”

The Culprits, who join Josh for full-band performances, are comprised of Jon Kurzman (drums), Tim Kessler (bass/additional), and a cast of rotating friends on guitar and assorted instruments, including Frank Joseph of The Fearless.

Josh Yavneh’s full self-titled, nine-track album can be found across all streaming platforms! The upcoming Culprits is expected to join it in the near future.

Inspiration & Influences

Josh Yavneh has clear mental snapshots of the most important songs in his musical development: “My earliest "rock and roll" memory was hearing "Runnin' Down A Dream" by Tom Petty in my mom's dodge shadow when I was 5 or 6 years old.” Bob Dylan made a profound impact on the way he viewed playing music. “I'll never forget hearing "Subterranean Homesick Blues" for the first time. It was a true revelation.” That was the spark that inspired his desire to learn how to play guitar and bass and, in turn, delve into songwriting.

I truly believe that there isn’t one person on this earth that can tell you that you can’t do something besides yourself. No dream is too far away if you have the drive, aren’t delusional and don’t expect anyone to hand you a damn thing. People always “make it”, so why not you? You may not be the “success” you aimed for. But you’ll still get to live your life knowing you lived it how you wanted to, and to me, true happiness comes from that. To anyone out there - If a mix of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Howlin’ Wolf, Tom Petty, Nirvana, REM, Pearl Jam, Wilco, The Replacements and more sounds good to you, I hope you give some of these tunes a listen.
