AQUA CHERRY

iNTRODUCTIONS

Veterans in Suffolk’s open mic scene have often used Aqua Cherry’s lineup as a history marker. Founded in 2011, the reggae rock band has played musical chairs with their lineup but maintained a consistent name and message in an ever-changing scene. Bringing the Caribbean sound of reggae to our not-so-tropical island comes naturally to these seasoned musicians. No matter the season, you’re transported to warmer climes and friendly faces when Aqua Cherry starts grooving. You can expect to see Chad White (vocals), Cortney Caramanico (vocals), Bryan Kelly (guitar/vocals), Stu Sushit (bass), and John Soldo (drums) when you catch Aqua Cherry these days. In eight years members have come and gone including some of the original band members. At one point the band looked doomed to end, even playing a “final show” at Katie’s in Smithtown. When they never stopped meeting for practice it seemed like they weren’t prepared to give up. The band was resuscitated and reinforced with the addition of John Soldo of The Scofflaws on drums and later Cortney on vocals.

TOURS & SHOWS

Aqua Cherry has toured all over New York state, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Chicago, Boston, and Miami. They have shared the stage with Everlast, The Spin Doctors, Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens, Badfish, Underground Junction featuring Steven Bauer, The Scofflaws, Junior Marvin and The Wailers, Perro Bravo, Murphy's Law, The Toasters, Corky Lang and The Mind Thieves, Wonder Mike from The Sugar Hill Gang, and more.

Aqua Cherry has three studio albums, "Auto-Kiss Proof", "So Pretty" EP, and "Drowning in the Shallow End". "Auto Kiss Proof" makes good on a promise to keep bringing fans a lot of great music to enjoy. With the two newly released singles "Forever" and "Bleachin" feat. Oogee Wawa, the group took a different approach and dove deeper into the reggae/dancehall genre. Aqua Cherry anticipates a Spring 2019 release on a new album they are finishing up now.

INSPIRATION & INFLUENCES

Aqua Cherry has drawn inspiration from numerous bands over the years, and they listed Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bad Brains, Chronixx, Damian Marley, Dennis Brown, Ini Kamoze, Marcia Griffiths, Marvin Gaye, Outkast, Otis Redding, Peter Tosh, Sean Paul, Sublime, Toots & The Maytals, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Buju Banton and Yellowman among them.

Chad shared that “Forever” is his favorite song to play. It was written and recorded during the transition between lead singers when founding member Derick passed the torch to Chad. The process of creating that song became a cornerstone to what Aqua Cherry is now and voices the idea that we each impact the world around us for generations to come.

Shouts to you! Big up to every long island band looking to build up the community not just take from it! Love one another!
